Farid Uddin Ahmed, born on 31 October 1953, is a distinguished specialist in forestry and environmental management, with over 45 years of experience in research, policy formulation, and institutional development. He currently serves as Treasurer of the Bangladesh Academy of Agriculture and as a General Board Member of UDDIPAN—a national NGO committed to livelihood enhancement and environmental conservation. 

From 2007 to 2021, he led the Arannayk Foundation as Executive Director, and continued as Senior Forest Management Specialist until December 2022. Under his stewardship, the organization significantly advanced community-based forest conservation and agroforestry initiatives across Bangladesh. 

Earlier, Farid served for two decades at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC), where he held senior leadership roles including Member Director for Natural Resources Management. His professional journey began at the Bangladesh Forest Research Institute as a Senior Research Officer in Forest Management. He also headed the Village and Farm Forestry Project under Intercooperation, funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation. 

Farid holds three master’s degrees: in Botany from the University of Dhaka, in Forestry from the Pakistan Forestry Institute, and in Environmental Forestry from the University of Wales, Bangor, UK. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at Gazipur Agricultural University, Khulna University, Chittagong University’s Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, and Independent University Bangladesh.  

His key contributions include pioneering agroforestry research and development in Bangladesh, promoting community-based forest conservation through livelihood improvement in Chittagong Hill Tracts, and contributing in agroforestry curriculum development for diploma and university students. He has authored over 50 publications on forest restoration, biodiversity, and sustainable livelihoods.
