Born on 29 August 1950, M. Jamaluddin earned his postgraduate degree in Physics from the University of Dhaka in 1974. He began his career as an Exploration Geophysicist with Petrobangla in 1975 and received advanced training in seismic survey and seismic data processing technology in the USA. He retired in 2007 as Managing Director of BAPEX, completing 33 years of distinguished service.
Jamaluddin played a pivotal role in Bangladesh’s oil and gas exploration, contributing to seismic data acquisition, processing, and interpretation. His professional footprint spans nearly all gas fields discovered in the country up to 2007. In his later years, he led initiatives in energy sector planning, policy review, reserve-demand-supply analysis, procurement oversight, HR development, and strategic project planning.
He made notable contributions to national energy policy frameworks, serving on key committees for the Bangladesh Petroleum Potential and Resources Assessment 2001, Gas Sector Master Plan and Strategy for Bangladesh, and the Bangladesh Gas Act.
Following retirement, he remained actively engaged in the energy sector (2007–2013), serving as a consultant to the Asian Development Bank, Gustavson Associates (USA), SAARC Energy Centre (Pakistan), Keystone Business Support Company, and IUCN Bangladesh.
Currently, he serves on the management boards of several leading organizations: Grameen Trust, Grameen Telecom, Grameen Telecom Trust, Grameen Shakti, Grameen Construction, Grameen University, and Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Ltd (a company of Petrobangla).
His scholarly work includes publications on regional energy trade, gas hydrate resource potential, and seismic studies, reflecting his deep expertise in the country’s energy landscape.
